Maria de Vries

The source of her art is undoubtedly her art of living. With open senses, she goes through life and allows herself to be touched by what her eyes see and her hands feel. She can be moved and enjoy herself in the smallest of spaces. Whether it's about people – young or old, in relation to each other or to the viewer, at rest or in action – about animals or about nature in a broader sense, she can always be touched. And she stores that experience, both the images and the accompanying emotions. She is therefore constantly 'charged' and never has to search for what in artistic circles is called 'inspiration'. Rather, the charge within her seeks an outlet. She cannot live without paint and brush. It is fascinating to see how she manages to transform her emotions into a play of colors, shapes, and lines. The game starts undefined, but gradually, often to her own surprise, the stakes become clear. She plays this game invitingly and at the same time convincingly. Numerous viewers feel immediately addressed and change from observer to admirer on the spot.
